  • This will be the fourth men’s ODI fixture between India and Afghanistan; India have won two of the earlier three fixtures while one game between the two sides ended in a tie (25 September 2018).
  • This will be the second game between India and Afghanistan at the men’s ODI World Cup after the Men in Blue won the sole such encounter against Afghanistan at Southampton on 22 June 2019 by 11 runs.

  • Afghanistan bowlers have picked 14 wickets in slog overs (Overs 41-50) in men’s ODI cricket since the beginning of 2023, the least of all full-member sides; India have picked 25 wickets during the same period and are eighth in the list.
  • Indian batters have struck 637 boundaries (148 sixes and 489 fours) in men’s ODIs since the start of 2023, the highest of any full-member sides; Afghanistan have scored the fewest of full-member sides during the same period (263).
  • Rohit Sharma (978 runs) is 22 away from becoming the fourth Indian batter to register 1000 runs at the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup; he, however, averages 19 against Afghanistan in the format, his lowest average against a full-member side.
  • Ibrahim Zadran averages 51.8 while batting in ODI cricket, the highest such rate for any Afghan batter in the format; though, he has an average of just 12 while batting in India, the only country where he averages less than 40 in the format.
  • Kuldeep Yadav (India) has bagged 32 wickets during the middle-phase (Overs 11-40) of ODI cricket since the beginning of 2023, the most by any bowler and 22 dismissals more than Afghanistan’s top wicket-taker during the same period – Mohammad Nabi (10 wickets).
