- This will be the fourth men’s ODI fixture between India and Afghanistan; India have won two of the earlier three fixtures while one game between the two sides ended in a tie (25 September 2018).
- This will be the second game between India and Afghanistan at the men’s ODI World Cup after the Men in Blue won the sole such encounter against Afghanistan at Southampton on 22 June 2019 by 11 runs.
- This will be the first men’s ODI fixture between India and Afghanistan in India; the Afghans have however played 13 ODI games in India winning five and losing eight which includes them losing their last five games in the country on the bounce.
