The modern Paralympics was born in 1896, exactly 125 years ago in Athens. When it reaches to Tokyo, the 2020 version bears no resemblance to its ancestor. The quadrennial event’s contours and reach have transformed fitting to the modern world. But the latest edition of the Paralympics will be conducted at a time when the world is trying to shrug off the frightening shadow of Covid 19. Perhaps, Tokyo 2020, which was postponed for a year because of the pandemic, could offer a bright streak of light. Over 11000 athletes from 206 participating countries will vie to find new distance and heights between July 23 and August 8 at the Japanese capital. The world, possibly, never needed the excitement of Paralympics as it needs now. Let’s tune in to Tokyo then!
