OUT! Run Out. Chris Woakes to Andrew Tye. Slower ball short, outside off stump on the back foot pulling, mis-timed back to bowler, direct hit by Woakes. High class stuff from Woakes, digging in a slower bouncer that Tye can't get hold of and then picking up another run out as he nails the non-striker's stumps.

So Australia finish on 270/9 on the back of another Aaron Finch century, but you would suggest England are the happier of the two sides at the halfway mark. The right-handed opener was a class above the rest of the Aussie batsmen, with no one else making a score in excess of 36. The tourists were superb in the field and their spinners caused plenty of issues. Joe Root was the surprise package, sneaking through seven overs for a more than useful 2/31. The hosts will have to come out firing with the ball if they want to defend against a dynamic England order, it should be exciting.

  • 49.5

SIX! Chris Woakes to Andrew Tye. Full toss, off stump on the front foot driving, well timed in the air under control over deep mid wicket for 6 runs. Stand and deliver stuff from Tye, that's just what Australia need at this stage.

  • 49.4

  • 49.1

OUT! Caught. Chris Woakes to Mitchell Starc. Slower length ball, down leg side on the front foot flick, mis-timed in the air uncontrolled to deep mid wicket, by Roy. The drop doesn't end up costing the tourists too badly. Starc continues to swing from the hip but he doesn't quite get hold of this one, and Roy settles under it with ease. Woakes gets his first wicket of the day, well deserved after a parsimonious spell.

  • 48.6

Mark Wood to Mitchell Starc. Back of a length, to leg on the front foot pulling, well timed in the air uncontrolled to deep mid wicket for 1 run, dropped catch by Root. Spilled in the deep, that's one of the first mistakes England have made tonight. It's right down Root's throat in the deep but he grasses it, I think maybe he couldn't pick it up as the ball came out of the sun.

  • 47.4

OUT! Run Out. Chris Woakes to Cameron White. Slower ball short, outside off stump on the back foot pulling, mis-timed to silly mid on, direct hit by Woakes. Fancy footwork from Woakes ends Carey's debut innings. The England side love their football, they warm up with it every day, and clearly it's working for them. The batsmen try to scamper through and steal a single, but Woakes is bang on target with his big right boot. Quality stuff.

  • 45.2

FOUR! Adil Rashid to Alex Carey. Leg spinner half volley, outside off stump on the front foot slog sweeping, well timed in the air under control past deep mid wicket for 4 runs. Lovely stroke, breaking his wrists through this sweep in order to manufacture it into the gap.

  • 45.1

Adil Rashid to Cameron White. Leg spinner length ball, middle stump on the front foot reverse sweeping, to third man for 1 run, fielded by Ali.

  • 44.2

FOUR! Marcus Stoinis to Chris Woakes. Length ball, off stump on the front foot driving, well timed in the air under control past long on for 4 runs. Finished in style, Woakes plonks this over the top and gets a big hug from Root. England seal victory by 4 wickets and go 2-0 up in the series.

Once again England have mastered a runchase to canter home with plenty of overs to spare. There was no standout innings on this occasion, instead a workmanlike display from six of their top eight as they made light work of Australia's total. Mitchell Starc (4/59) sent some nerves through the away dressing room with a fired up spell, but Joe Root (46*) and Chris Woakes (39*) remained composed until the end. The tourists' bowling display deserves plenty of credit, they were able to stifle the hosts through proactive captaincy, canny spin bowling and clever changes of pace. It leaves Steve Smith's men with a tough ask to haul themselves back into the series, they'll have the chance to do so in two days time in Sydney.

  • 44.1

FOUR! Marcus Stoinis to Chris Woakes. Short, outside off stump on the back foot cutting, well timed in the air under control past deep backward point for 4 runs. Glorious, Woakes leans back to open up the offside and then carves this with sublime timing. The end is nigh in Brisbane.

  • 41.5

FOUR! Jhye Richardson to Chris Woakes. Short, outside off stump on the back foot pulling, past deep backward square leg for 4 runs, mis-fielded by Stoinis. Oh dear, this is sloppy work in the deep. Woakes places his shot well and pushes hard for a couple, so Stoinis charges after it in the hope of preventing it. Inexplicably the ball eludes him and trickles into the ropes, much to the delight of the England fans sat behind him.

SIX! Jhye Richardson to Chris Woakes. Back of a length, outside off stump on the front foot pulling, well timed in the air under control over deep mid wicket for 6 runs. Dispatched over the ropes with aplomb, that'll settle any nerves in the England camp. Woakes just leans back and wallops with disdain.
